SAUERBRATEN MEATBALLS½ cup milk 3 slices bread 1½ lbs.lean ground ½ cup chopped onion beef 1 egg 1 clove garlic, crushed 1 ½ tsp. salt ¼ tsp. pepper 8 gingersnaps, crushed 2 ½ cups beef broth 1 tbsp. brown sugar 2 tbsp. Wine vinegar ¼ cup seedless raisins 3 cup hot cooked rice 3 tbsp. Chopped chives
Combine milk, bread beef, onion, egg & seasoning. Mix thoroughly. Shape into 18 balls. Place in a shallow baking pan. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Meanwhile combine remaining ingredients except rice & chives. Cook, stirring constantly until thickened. Pour over meatballs. Continue baking 30 minutes longer. Toss rice & chives together. Spoon meatballs & sauce over chive rice. 6 servings. |
